Can you guess where I am?
That's right - I'm in Edinburgh.
I'm teaching a SQL course up here this week and this will be the first time since about 1998 that I've worked in Edinburgh, so it feels a little weird being up here on my own. However, I'm staying in an absolutely incredible place - a hotel called the Knight Residence.
People - this place is incredible.
Basically it is what is known as a serviced apartment, so what you don't get is a restaurant and room service. Instead the room I am in at the moment is rather different.
On my door is a small sign featuring the room number plus also my name. Step through the door and you are in an entrance hall. To the right is a very nice bathroom, and straight ahead is the large bedroom, with a huge bed and a view of the Castle.
Turn left instead and you are in the lounge. The lounge has a huge sofa - easily a three-seater - and two matching armchairs. There is also a dining table with two chairs, a large flat TV with cable (I'm currently watching "Family Guy"), a video and DVD player, a mini hi-fi, and also a small library of videos and CDs, which brilliantly include "Groundhog Day" (one of my favourite films) and "Heidi" (if you've known me for a long time you'll understand the significance of this).
Through the lounge is the kitchen! It has a proper oven and hob, a microwave, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a fridge, and they also provide a breakfast pack which consists of a loaf of bread, various cereals, a litre of orange juice, two pints of milk, some butter, margarine and jam, various teas and some biscuits. Needless to say as I've not really eaten since breakfast today I've eaten some of it already.
The weirdest thing is that a place like this is actually cheaper than most hotels in the city. Truly bizarre.
