Good lord, have we been back over a week already?
Had a fantastic time in Lindos as usual. The place hasn't changed a bit and everybody (20 people in the first two days) remembered us and gave us a lovely welcome. The weather was incredibly hot - 48 degrees at its peak - and we had a lovely rest. Read lots of books, some good, some disappointing (the good: "The Stolen Child" by Keith Donohue, "Number9dream" by David Mitchell, "Scar Tissue" by Anthony Kiedis; the disappointing: "Lance Armstrong - Tour De Force" by somebody, "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace, "The Worms Can Carry Me To Heaven" by Alan Warner) and, as always, the food and drink was all astonishingly good, apart from in the Acropolis Restaurant which we've decided is poo, and the Il Palazzetto Italian restaurant which was a bit of a let-down this year. The picture at the top of this post is of Lindos, taken from just over the road from our hotel. Lovely - wish I was there now.
Since we got back work has been mad as usual for both of us. I'm currently immersed in SQL 2005 manuals, realising just how appallingly bad the new curriculum is (Microsoft - you've really screwed up with this one!) Still, we close our eyes and imagine those sun loungers beneath azure skies...
Loads of books have been released while we were away or just after we returned, so my "to read" pile has shot up again. I'm currently reading the new Christopher Fowler book, "Ten Second Staircase" (brilliant so far), and next in the stack are "Paula Spencer" by Roddy Doyle, "Kingdom Come" by J G Ballard, and "Only Revolutions" by Mark Z Danielewski. Believe it or not but this one's layout is madder than "House of Leaves"!
All for now. More soon.
