I'm running SQL 2000 admin this week in London, and my word it is hot. My hotel is twenty minutes' walk away from the office and by the time I arrive at either place I'm dripping with sweat, which is most unpleasant. It's also a bit unsettling being down here just after the suicide bombers struck last week, and needless to say there are a lot of police around, helicopters flying overhead, streets being cordoned off because of suspicious packages and so on.
Had a good evening on Monday. Went to Foyles bookshop as Jasper Fforde (one of my favourite authors) was making an appearance. He spoke for about an hour about his new book, "The Big Over Easy", and his books in general, and then signed copies. As is usually the case with such events, there was free wine, which was good. The slightly more unusual aspect of the evening was that I was interviewed for a documentary on Jasper Fforde by an attractive lady goth with pink hair, but due to the heat, amount of wine I'd drunk, and lack of food consumed during the day, plus the attractiveness of the goth and pinkness of her hair, most of my answers were either "can't say I've ever really thought about it", "don't know", or giggles. What a great interviewee I am.
No word as yet on when my date for leaving Xpertise is, but my contract for Remarc has been signed and sent to them, so it is a case of all systems go...
